Biographies
James O. Wright, PhD, CSP
Principal Associate
Dr. Wright is the co-founder and a Principal Associate for The Wright Associates.
In academia, James directed the Safety Training Instruction & Research Center at Iowa State University in the Department of Ag & Biosystems Engineering.
In industry, James served as the Director of Safety and Health for John Deere in the World Wide Agricultural Equipment Division at John Deere..
In law enforcement, James served with the Des Moines Police Department.
Experience
James is a noted keynote presenter, workshop leader and facilitator for many associations, businesses, and government entities. Key training topics include: World Class Solutions for Performance Improvement, Blue Print for the Integrated Emergency Response Organization, Auditing for Performance Improvement, Team Building and Individual Responsibility. He has taught courses on: Diversity, Race, Gender & Ethnic Relations, Human Resources, Policy and Ethics, Contingency Planning for Business and Industry, Principles of Accident Prevention, Legal Aspects of Safety, Fire Prevention, and Occupational Safety Management.

Dr. Wright received his PhD in Industrial Technology and Education majoring in Occupational Safety, from Iowa State University; Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Higher Education majoring in Educational Leadership and Master of Science in Education degree in Adult Education Training and Development both from Drake University; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services/Public Safety Services from Thomas Edison State College.

Margaret J. Wright, MPA
Principal Associate
Margaret Wright is the co-founder and a Principal Associate for The Wright Associates.
In state government Margaret was the Bureau Chief for Child Welfare Services in the Iowa Department of Human Services, Division of Child & Family Services. She has experience in numerous key leadership positions: private sector and government in the areas of management, organizational development, philanthropy, community change and not-for-profit.
Experience
As a Director at the Principal Financial Group she developed training programs for Employee Benefits staff in the areas of personal development, diversity, and in Retirement Services held the position of Officer in the Retirement Services area, overseeing nationwide benefit education for employer groups, and leadership on profitability tool. Margaret also served as the Executive Advisor to the office of the CEO, working on international due diligence, international company opening guide, and investment task force on endowments and foundations. Managing operations and human resource management concerns for 250 administrative staff in 50 offices throughout the U.S., Margaret managed nationwide administrative staff development, created and implemented national training and development programs, facilitated a salary administration compensation program, managed hiring, employee relations, diversity training, EEO and Affirmative Action program, ergonomics, safety and business resumption programs. She has trained individuals nationwide on ergonomics, security, safety, and business resumption.
In the not for profit roles with the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s community change initiative Making Connections, she held several roles, last as the Site Coordinator working with leadership throughout the community on increasing the economic, health, and education outcomes for low-income families.
Currently as the Bureau Chief for Child Welfare Services at the Iowa Department of Human Services accountable for policy, rules, budget, and management of bureau that covers: foster care, group care, adoptions, kinship care, decatagorization, disaster planning, interstate compact for placement of children, interstate compact for juveniles and runaways, family safety risk and permanency, transition from care, Chafee, education training vouchers, and other related child welfare issues. Margaret served as part of a European Union study tour on public policy strategies for sustainable community change.

Margaret has served on various conferences and boards such as: John R. Grubb YMCA, Polk County Decategorization Board, Polk County Empowerment Board, Greater Des Moines Funders Forum, Chautauqua Park Neighborhood Association, Society for Human Resource Management, Trends in Employee Benefit Education, New York, National Association of Women Business Owners & National Foundation of Women Business Owners National Conferences, Society of Pension Administrators and Record Keepers (SPARK) National Conference, Washington, D.C. Other previous roles and designations include:

Education
Margaret received her Master of Public Administration degree from Drake University, with an emphasis in Human Resources.
Prior to that she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Simpson College.
